Having a webshop built costs from €2,499 with me, excluding VAT. On top of that come the running costs: the platform or hosting, the payment provider and optional maintenance. In this guide I lay out what a webshop costs in 2026 on Shopify, on WooCommerce and as a custom build, what the build price includes, what drives the price and what to look for when you compare quotes. So you know upfront what the first year will cost.

What does a webshop cost? The build price
With me a complete webshop costs from €2,499, excluding VAT. That is a fixed price you get in writing before I start, not an hourly estimate. For that amount you get a shop you can sell from on day one, not a bare theme that still needs work. This is included in the build price as standard:
- Product catalog with categories, filters and search
- Cart and checkout with iDEAL and other payment methods via Mollie
- Inventory management and an overview of your orders
- Responsive design that works as well on a phone as on a laptop
- SEO foundation: proper titles, descriptions and fast product and category pages
- Your domain name connected, SSL and a real test order before launch
Shopify, WooCommerce or custom: the costs per platform
Ask several parties for a quote and you will usually get one of these three flavors. Build prices are often close; the big difference is what you pay every month afterwards and how much you keep in your own hands. I build webshops on Shopify or as a custom Next.js build; which of the two fits you depends on your range and on how much you want to manage yourself.

Running costs: what do you pay per month and per year?
The build is a one-off amount, but a webshop keeps running. These are the costs you will run into every month or every year, so you can do an honest calculation for the first year.
- Hosting for a custom webshop: €10-€25/month on Vercel, including SSL and backups
- Shopify subscription: around €30 a month for the Basic plan, rising to a few hundred euros a month for the largest plans
- WooCommerce hosting: €15 to €50 a month for a fast managed WordPress server, plus paid plugins
- Domain name: €10-€15/year, the same on every platform
- Payment provider: Mollie charges per transaction, a fixed amount of around €0.30 for iDEAL and a percentage of the order value for cards
- Maintenance (optional): €49, €99 or €149 a month for updates, monitoring and changes
- Example custom build, first year: €2,499 build plus hosting and domain comes to roughly €2,650 to €2,800, excluding VAT, payment fees and maintenance
- Example Shopify Basic, first year: €2,499 build plus subscription and domain comes to around €2,900, excluding VAT and payment fees
What is included and what costs extra?
The standard webshop is a complete store, but not every wish belongs to the standard scope. This is what is included and what I list separately in the quote, so you never get a surprise afterwards.
- Included: catalog, checkout with iDEAL, inventory, shipping rates by country or order value and order emails to you and the customer
- Entering products: agreed in the quote based on how many products there are; you supply them in a spreadsheet with photos
- Depends on the platform: customer accounts with order history come with Shopify, in a custom build they are extra work
- Extra: a link to your accounting software (Moneybird or Exact, for example) or your point of sale
- Extra: a shipping integration with PostNL, DHL or Sendcloud for automatic labels
- Extra: a multilingual shop, Dutch and English for instance, because every product text then exists twice
- Extra: product configurators, subscriptions or B2B pricing per customer group
- Product texts and photos you supply yourself; if you do not have them, we agree upfront who takes care of that
What determines the price of a webshop?
Two webshops can look the same on paper and still differ a lot in price. These are the factors that decide whether you land on the starting price or above it.
- Number of products and variants: 30 products with a size and a color is a different job from 3,000 products with options
- How you deliver products: a clean spreadsheet with photos saves days compared to loose emails
- Design: an adapted theme is ready sooner than a design built from scratch
- Payment methods: iDEAL, cards and PayPal are standard, buy now pay later via Klarna or in3 needs extra configuration and approval from the payment provider
- Integrations: inventory, accounting, shipping or a point of sale each need custom work
- Languages: every extra language means all product texts, categories and emails again
- Moving from an existing shop: transferring products, customers and order history and redirecting old URLs
How to compare webshop quotes
A low price says little if you do not know what is in it. Put quotes side by side on these points and you quickly see what a webshop really costs.
- One-off or monthly: do you pay once for a shop you own, or every month for a DIY site builder on a subscription where the shop is never yours? Work both out over a few years.
- Ownership: is the shop on your Shopify account or your domain, and do you get the code and the design?
- Payments: is iDEAL via Mollie included, or do you still have to arrange that yourself?
- Products: who enters the products, and how many are included?
- Running costs: ask about hosting, subscription, apps and transaction fees, and work out a full year
- After launch: who fixes things when something breaks, and what does that cost?
- Fixed price: is the amount fixed, or is it an estimate based on hours?
How a webshop project works with me
You talk directly to the person building it, from the first conversation to launch. No agency, no account manager. A webshop takes longer than a regular website: count on four weeks or more, depending on the number of products and integrations. This is how it goes:
- You send a message via the form, WhatsApp or phone and tell me what kind of shop you want: your range, the number of products and whether you already use a platform. You get a reply within 24 hours.
- You receive a quote with a fixed price and a clear scope: what is included, what is extra and when it will be ready.
- I build a proposal for your homepage first. If you do not like it, you pay nothing.
- Then I build the rest of the shop: catalog, checkout, payments and inventory, with feedback rounds in between.
- We enter the products, connect Mollie and place a real test order with iDEAL.
- The shop goes live on your own domain. After that I stay reachable for questions and changes, ad hoc or through a maintenance plan of €49, €99 or €149 a month.

It only gets cheaper with a do-it-yourself builder on a subscription, and there you pay every month without the design and the code ever becoming yours.
How long does it take to build a webshop?
Count on four weeks or more. A regular website is usually live within 1-2 weeks with me, but a webshop adds the products, the payments and testing the checkout. The sooner you deliver products, photos and texts, the sooner the shop is ready. You get a realistic timeline with the quote.
Which payment methods can I offer in my webshop?
Via Mollie I connect iDEAL, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Bancontact and buy now pay later with Klarna or in3. iDEAL is the payment method nearly every customer in the Netherlands expects, so it is standard in every webshop I build. You pay Mollie per transaction; there is no fixed monthly fee for the payment integration.
Can you improve or move my existing webshop?

Do I own my webshop?
Yes. The code, the design and the content are yours, and the domain name is registered in your name. If I build on Shopify, the shop runs in your own Shopify account, so you never depend on me to get in.
