Why Next.js?
Next.js is the React framework built by Vercel. It pre-builds pages or renders them on the server, so the content is in the HTML and Google can read it straight away. For a business website that mostly means: fast loading, easy to find and no plugins to update every month. For a web application it means the website and the app fit in one codebase.
- Fast: pages are pre-built where possible and the code is split automatically, so a visitor only loads what that page needs
- Findable: server-side rendering puts the content in the HTML, with its own metadata and structured data per page, plus a sitemap
- Built-in image and font optimization, with no extra plugins
- API routes for forms, integrations and backend logic without a separate server
- One codebase for website and web application, so a site can grow into a client portal or dashboard later
- Hosting on Vercel: global CDN, SSL, a preview for every change and no server to manage

What does it cost to hire a Next.js developer?
All prices are starting prices, excluding VAT. For websites and webshops I work with a fixed project price. For a web application I start with a discovery, so the scope is clear before you get a fixed price. No open-ended billing and no surprise invoices afterwards. Ongoing costs are only hosting (€10-€25/month) and your domain name (€10-€15/year); maintenance is optional from €49/month.

Taking over an existing Next.js project
Stuck with a Next.js project the previous developer walked away from, a build that no longer passes or a site that has become slow? Send me access to the repository. I read the code, look at the build and the hosting, and tell you honestly what I would do: repair, clean up or rebuild. That first look is part of the quote and costs nothing. This is what I check.
- Versions: is the project on a current Next.js and React, and what does updating cost
- Structure: can the next developer follow the code, or is everything in one big file
- Performance and SEO: load time, Core Web Vitals, metadata, sitemap and redirects
- Hosting and deploys: is it on Vercel or elsewhere, and does a deploy work without manual steps
- Open items: what the previous developer left behind and which of those items are actually urgent
- Ownership: are the repository, domain and hosting in your name, and if not, we fix that first
How it works when you hire me
You are not hiring an agency but one developer. That means short lines of communication: the person who answers your message is the one who writes the code. I work from Amsterdam for business owners across the Netherlands, and almost everything happens remotely. This is how a project runs.
- Intro call: you tell me what you want to build and I tell you honestly whether Next.js is the right choice for it. Sometimes a landing page or a Shopify store is enough
- Quote: scope and a fixed price in writing. For a web application, a discovery comes first
- Proposal: for a website I build your homepage first. If you do not like it, you pay nothing
- Build: every change gets a preview link of its own on Vercel, so you follow along while I build instead of only seeing the end result
- Launch: the code lives in a repository in your name. You own the code, the design and the content
- After that: I stay reachable. Maintenance is available as a plan (Basic €49/month, Standard €99/month, Pro €149/month) or simply when something comes up

What does it cost to hire a Next.js developer?
For websites I work with fixed project prices: a landing page from €499, a business website with 3-5 pages from €899, an extended website with 5-15 pages from €1,499 and a webshop from €2,499, all excluding VAT. For a custom web application I start with a discovery of €399-€750 and then charge a day rate of €450-€650, turned into a fixed price for the agreed scope. So you know what you pay before I start.
Do you work by the hour or at a fixed price?
At a fixed price. You get a quote up front with the scope and the amount, and that amount does not change during the build. For a web application I use my day rate of €450-€650 to calculate that fixed price, but you never pay an open-ended hourly bill. If you want more later, we agree that separately.
Can you take over an existing Next.js project?
Yes. Send me access to the repository and I look at the code, the versions, the build and the hosting, then tell you what I would do: repair, clean up or rebuild. That first look is part of the quote. After that you get a fixed price for the work that is needed, and I make sure the repository, domain and hosting are in your name.
Is Next.js overkill for a regular business website?
No. A business website with five pages benefits from exactly what Next.js does well: fast loading, easy to find and no themes or plugins that need an update every month. This site is an example of that. If you want to edit text yourself every day, I connect a CMS or include the updates in maintenance.
Can I edit my website myself?
We agree that up front. If you change text or photos regularly, I connect a CMS so you do that yourself without touching the code. If your content rarely changes, it is often cheaper to have me make the updates, one-off or through a maintenance plan. Either way you own the code, the design and the content.
How fast can my project be live?
Most websites are live within 1-2 weeks, a landing page often within a week, larger sites in 2-4 weeks and webshops take longer. For a web application we set the timeline in the discovery, so you get a realistic date rather than a guess.
Do you also work with WordPress or other frameworks?
I build in Next.js and React, and webshops on Shopify. If another system fits your needs better, for example because your team is already used to WordPress, I tell you so in the first conversation. How the two compare is covered in my WordPress vs Next.js comparison.
